Nov 20, 2005 - The Americans in Paris

Paris
After another quick stop back thru London to pick up our bags at Matt and Robin's, we made arrangements to take the Chunnel or Eurostar train from London to Paris. We looked forward to the Eurostar train as sort of a luxury experience (given the over $120 pricetag for the two hour journey) to take us to our final destination. Let's just say, for a one hundreth of the price we had more spacious and on time trains in Thailand or even Egypt! This was much to our surprise. Our train alternated between stopping or a snail's pace due to "electrical problems." We arrived in Paris approximately 8 hours later.

As ever, Paris is as beautiful as the last time I was there - just much chillier at about 25 degrees. The Eiffel Tower, pastries and coffee, museums, architecture, the snooty Parisians, crepes... It just so happened it was Beaujolais Nouveau Thursday when we arrived which is the third Thursday of each November and like a citywide red wine release party. We enjoyed tasty wines for cheap-cheap over our few days in Paris.

We arrived back in the United States this evening and Paul's brother met our jetlagged selves together with our 7 pieces of torn and duct taped luggage! (Duct tape proved to be a travel essential.) An awesome American feast of roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, and fried chicken were lovingly prepared for us by Paul's brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Sandy.

My head is spinning that it has been six months since our journey began. In a way, it's like I snapped my fingers and was transported back. It was, without a doubt, worth a lifetime of memories and I'd highly recommend it. Now we each must assume the task of rebuilding our bank accounts so if you have a job or would like to make a donation, please call:
Jen 415-567-0557 and Paul 415-298-9536 Give a ring...would love to hear from everyone. (just kidding about the donations part ;)
