 | | The Dead Sea from Masada | | mesas of the Negev desert surrounding the Dead Sea |
| | My not-so-glowing impressions of Israel aside we did visit a very unique spot, The Dead Sea (which also happens to be the lowest point on earth.) The Dead Sea lies between Israel and Jordan and is in the Negev desert on the Israel side. Looking across to the Jordan side there were beautiful mountains which turned pink at sunset. The salt content is so high you float, you really couldn't sink or even dive under if you wanted to. In fact, Paul tried to dive under and I warned him not to open his eyes under (for obvious STINGING reasons) which made him laugh and get water in his eyes anyway, nearly blinding himself. We had a good time doing stupid human tricks for a little bit at sunset. They say that the Dead Sea is a medicinal and healing place. I found it to be like science fiction because after the Mount Sinai trek I had raw blisters the size of each heel (probably because I hadn't worn anything but flip flops for a few months) which hurt pretty bad. After enduring the STING of the Dead Sea on them the next day two patches of dry skin peeled off and VOILA! science fiction. Then again, they are healed. :) |
